Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday he had never met Oleg Smolenkov, a so-called American spy on the media, and had never seen him during his Kremlin administration in Moscow.

The Russian minister said during his meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart: “For this citizen, there was a comment today from the Kremlin press office, I have never seen him, I never met him, I did not follow his career or movements and I do not want to comment on these rumors”.

The official spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, revealed the identity and fate of the American “spy”, which was announced through the US media that he works in the Kremlin administration in Moscow.

“What has been said in the American media about the presence of a Kremlin worker, a spy working for the United States in their opinion, is Oleg Smolenkov, who worked in the Kremlin’s administration”, Peskov told reporters.

“He worked for several years but was then expelled by an internal order”, Peskov said.

“This post was not in touch with the president at all”, Peskov said.

Citing US intelligence sources, CNN reported that US intelligence rushed in 2017 to evacuate a “high-level informant from the Russian government” after President Donald Trump met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, fearing that the US president would divulge the secrets of the American spy.
