Local sources in Idlib, northwestern Syria, which is under the control of extremist militants, reported that there are between 50 and 60 people from Ukraine currently residing in one of the towns of Jisr al Shughur in the southern Idlib countryside.

These Ukrainians arrived in the area about 35 days ago and settled in one of the camps of the Uyghur fighters in the Jisr al Shughur countryside, amid tight security measures that prevent access to them except for logistical teams from the militants of the Turkistan Islamic Party, which is responsible for securing their daily needs.

Those militants’ job is to buy all the needs for the Ukrainians from local shops in Jisr al Shughur every two days, so then to be transported to the protected area north of the city, which has included the headquarters of the Uyghur militants and their families for years.

Most of the town’s residents know that the camp is from Ukraine, and even farmers in the north of the city have begun to refer to it as the “Ukrainian camp”.

According to source, an incident occurred last week when a group of Ukrainians were poisoned after eating a spoiled fish meal, causing a huge uproar in the northern neighborhood of Jisr al Shughour.

A doctor and a nurse were called from the local clinic and medical equipment and medicines were transported to the “Ukrainian camp” to treat one of the sick, whose condition had deteriorated so severely that he almost died.

The doctor was able to save his life at the last minute, adding that the poisoning wasn’t intentional and that the weather conditions appeared to have worsened his condition.

In another context, the press service of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service reported on October 1 that Western and Ukrainian intelligence services are preparing to use chemical weapons in Syria.

According to Russian intelligence, NATO and Ukrainian services are preparing for this provocation in northern Idlib, accusing the Syrian army and Russian forces of using chemical weapons in order to discredit them at the UN and the OPCW.

The White Helmets NGO will take part in the provocation by filming the consequences of the attack and providing supposed civilian testimonies to blame Syria and Russia, the office said.

The operation involves using drones to drop containers filled with chlorine in areas under attack by Syrian and Russian forces, it added.

Russian intelligence confirmed that these attacks aim to undermine Russia’s position globally, especially in the countries of the Global South, in an attempt by the United States and Britain to influence those countries to take anti-Russian positions in the Ukrainian conflict.
