A high-ranking Russian general was assassinated by blowing up his car in Moscow

Russia’s Investigative Committee announced the assassination of Lieutenant General Vanil Sarfarov, head of the operational training department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, after he was injured in a car explosion in the capital, Moscow.

The Russian Investigative Committee has indicated that Ukrainian intelligence may be behind Sarafarov’s death.

“Investigators are examining eyewitnesses as well as studying the camera recording in the case of the murder of Lieutenant General Vanil Sarfarov,” the Russian Investigative Committee’s report said.

“An explosive device that was installed under a car was detonated on Moscow’s Yasenivaya Street, where Lieutenant General Sarvarov was killed,” report said.

According to the spokeswoman of the Russian Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, the murder is legally classified as “murder carried out by means of public danger”, along with “illegal trafficking in explosives”, in accordance with articles 105 and 222.1 of the Russian Penal Code.

Petrenko said the head of the investigative committee had ordered a team of experienced investigators and forensic experts to be sent from the central headquarters to help uncover the circumstances of the crime.

The scene of the incident is currently being examined and a number of expertise will be conducted, including forensic expertise and explosives expertise.

Witnesses and people who witnessed the incident are also being questioned, and surveillance camera recordings in the area are also being analyzed.

Among the hypothesis’s investigators are studying is the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence agencies in carrying out the assassination.

The explosion also damaged at least seven cars parked nearby.
