A German delegation discusses the return of the displaced and the lifting of sanctions in Damascus, describing the situation of Syria as Germany after World War II

Members of a German parliamentary delegation visiting Syria since Monday expressed their admiration for the Syrian people, their ability to work and creativity, expressing their belief that the Syrians are able to advance their country as did the German people after World War II, which managed to turn his country into one of the greatest countries in the world.

The head of the delegation and head of the contact group on Syria in the parliamentary bloc of the Alternative for Germany Frank Bazeman, expressed the position of his party and its parliamentary bloc, which constitutes 16 percent of the German federal parliament, which refuses to impose a siege on Syria and the need to build good relations with Syria and the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, calling for Working together and taking practical steps to restore the economic relations between the two countries.

He pointed out the importance of the return of Syrian refugees from Germany to their country and contribute to the reconstruction and development of Syria’s economy.

During their meetings in Damascus yesterday, members of the German delegation reiterated their opposition to the European Union’s policy towards Syria in recent years, calling for lifting the sanctions imposed on the Syrian people and supporting the reconstruction efforts in the country to facilitate the return of Syrians forced by the current circumstances to leave the country.

They stressed that the conditions of Syria today are very similar to those of Germany after the Second World War, but the German people managed after the end of the war and within a short time of its reconstruction and turned it into one of the greatest countries in the world, expressing their confidence in the courage of the Syrian people and that they have enough possibilities to restore Reconstruction of his country, which the German people actually touched by living with the Syrian refugees in Germany, “where we have noted their extraordinary ability to work and creativity”.

On Tuesday, the German delegation held several meetings with Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Ayman Sousan, Syrian businessmen in the Chambers of Industry and Commerce and with the President of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

He also visited the Syrian Opera House in Damascus “Dar Al Assad for Culture and Arts” accompanied by a number of members.

The German parliamentary delegation arrived in Damascus on Monday on a working visit that will last until the 25th of this month, during which he will meet with many Syrian officials.

The delegation includes members of the German Federal Parliament Frank Bazeman, head of the contact group for Syria in the parliamentary bloc of the “Alternative for Germany ”, Waldemar Herrredt, Udohimelgarn, Juergen Hans-Paul, Steven Cotter, Sebastian Montsenmeier, media and translators.

The delegation’s agenda includes meetings with the Speaker of the People’s Assembly, ministers of economy and foreign trade, tourism, housing and public works.

The program also includes a meeting with the Grand Mufti of Syria Ahmad Badr Eddin Hassoun and tours of historical and religious landmarks in Old Damascus and in the cities of Sednaya and Maaloula in Damascus countryside.

This is the second visit of German parliamentary delegations to Syria since 2011, where a German parliamentary delegation visited Damascus in March 2018, and included members of the two parties of the Alternative for Germany party of the Bundestag Federal Parliament, and three members of the local parliament.
