The German government is intensifying efforts to recruit more personnel into the German armed forces (Bundeswehr) by offering competitive salaries and a range of financial incentives, according to a report published by the German newspaper Bild.

The report states that individuals who volunteer for military service can expect to receive a starting monthly salary of approximately €2,600 to €2,700.

In addition to their basic pay, recruits are entitled to a comprehensive package of benefits, including free accommodation, meals, medical care, and complimentary rail transportation throughout Germany.

To address shortages in specific military occupations, the Bundeswehr is also offering additional monthly bonuses of around €451 for personnel serving in fields where qualified staff are in particularly high demand.

Military sources cited by Bild explained that volunteers who choose to serve for longer periods as contract soldiers (Soldat auf Zeit) generally enjoy higher earnings, greater job security, and expanded opportunities for professional development and career advancement within the armed forces.

The recruitment initiative comes as Germany seeks to strengthen its military capabilities amid a changing security environment in Europe.

In recent years, Berlin has increased defense spending and launched various measures aimed at improving the attractiveness of military service, including modernization programs, enhanced training opportunities, and improved conditions for service members.

German officials hope that the combination of competitive salaries, extensive benefits, and long-term career prospects will encourage more young people to consider military service and help the Bundeswehr meet its personnel requirements in the coming years.
