Shocking recordings of the former Mossad chief reveal details of the failed October 7 attack
Israeli Channel 12 published statements by Aharon Haliva, the former head of the Mossad (Israeli intelligence agency), regarding the events of October 7, 2023.
In these statements, Haliva addressed intelligence failures, secret plans to assassinate leaders of Hamas, and controversial statements about the need to kill 50,000 Palestinians as a message to future generations.
Haliva described the Israeli army as the best in the world, but emphasized that the events of October 7 weren’t just a passing incident, saying.
“If we replace the chief of staff, will everything go back to normal? It requires dismantling and reassembling… What happened to us is much bigger”.
He pointed out that the intelligence culture prior to the attack was based on the idea of the ability to do anything, considering the crisis to be deeper than arrogance, and compared the attack to historical events such as Pearl Harbor and September 11, 2000.
Haliva criticized the military leadership’s inaction on the night of the attack, revealing that former Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi relied on inaccurate intelligence reports, saying, “Herzi isn’t negligent, but paranoid”.
He added that he only woke up once during the attack, and his aide said that specialized officers were handling the matter.
Haliva revealed that the Shin Bet (General Security Service) was planning, before October 7, to assassinate Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar and Muhammad Deif, but a lack of information prevented the operation from being carried out.
Haliva harshly criticized members of the Israeli government, especially National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, describing them as inexperienced.
He explained, “Ben-Gvir was an outcast and suddenly became a member of the security cabinet… How many times have they read intelligence reports?”
It’s worth noting that from October 7, 2023, until August of this year, the war on Gaza has killed 61,827 people, and injured 155,275.
Despite this, Israel continues its military operations and recently announced its approval of a plan to occupy the entire Gaza Strip.
Its officials, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, continue to talk about claims of “Greater Israel,” a term that includes the occupation of the remaining Palestinian territories, in addition to the occupation of other Arab lands.
