Zelensky commenting on Putin-Scholz phone call: A pandora’s box!
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that the phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was like a “Pandora’s Box”.
This came in a video message from the Ukrainian president, in which he explained that Scholz informed him that he would make a phone call with Putin.
“For me, Scholz’s call with Putin is like a Pandora’s box… There may be other conversations and calls, and this is exactly what Putin wanted,” he added.
Zelensky stressed that Russia is isolated from the world due to the war on Ukraine, and that Putin is meeting world leaders in an attempt to break this isolation.
He explained that Putin’s goal is negotiations that don’t yield results, and that the inconclusive negotiations in previous years led to war.
Zelensky pointed out that they know very well what needs to be done to end the war, saying, “Now I know all these difficulties… We know how to act… There will be no third Minsk agreement, we need real peace”.
Earlier on Friday, Putin and Scholz discussed the situation in Ukraine, in a phone call, the first of its kind since December 2022.
The Kremlin said in a statement on Friday that the phone call took place at the request of the German Chancellor.
