In a surprise decision by the Israeli Military Intelligence Division, the commander of Unit 8200, Brigadier General Yossi Sariel, intends to announce his resignation in the coming weeks, according to the Israeli website Walla.

Unit 8200 is one of the largest and most important intelligence units in the Israeli occupation army, as it represents the backbone of electronic intelligence and is a vital part of the Military Intelligence Service (Aman).

The unit’s missions also focus on collecting and analyzing information, using advanced technological means, which makes it the cornerstone of the Israeli security system.

This decision comes about a week after Hezbollah targeted the main headquarters of Unit 8200, located in the Glilot base, adjacent to Tel Aviv, as part of the response to the aggression that targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut.

This decision also comes about 11 months after the October 7 operation, when the Intelligence Division was considered one of the main parties responsible for the failure on that day.

Hezbollah, in a response to Israel assassinating their highest commander, Fouad Shukr, carried out last week a high precision attack that targeted Unit 8200 base near Tel Aviv.
