US President Joe Biden is suffering from mild symptoms after testing positive for the coronavirus during a campaign trip to Las Vegas on Wednesday, the White House said.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement that Biden would move to his Delaware home where he will isolate himself and continue to perform his duties fully during this period.
On the other hand, US President Joe Biden has said he may reassess his candidacy if he faces a medical condition, according to excerpts from an interview broadcast Wednesday, after his health became on the lookout following his disastrous performance in a debate against Republican rival Donald Trump.
In an interview with BET, an African-American television channel, when asked if he might consider withdrawing from the presidential race, Biden said, “If I have a medical condition, if someone or the doctors come and say, ‘You have this problem or that problem'”.
Democratic Party official Adam Schiff on Wednesday called on President Joe Biden to withdraw his candidacy for a second term, expressing doubts about his ability to defeat Donald Trump.
Schiff is the top Democrat to make the announcement after Biden’s disastrous performance on June 27 during a debate with Trump that raised questions about his physical abilities and mental health.
Schiff said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times that “Joe Biden was one of the most important presidents in the history of our country and the services he provided during his career as a senator, vice president and today as president contributed to making our country better, however, our nation is at a crossroads”.
“Trump’s second presidency will undermine the foundations of our democracy and I have serious concerns about the president’s ability to defeat Donald Trump on November,” he said.
Democratic Party official Adam Schiff said in the statement that the choice to withdraw from the campaign is up to Biden, but the lawmaker believes it’s time for the 81-year-old president to make room for others.
Calls for Biden to abandon the candidacy have receded after the assassination attempt on his Republican opponent, Donald Trump, on Saturday.
But Joe Biden is still resisting pressure to step down.
