Türkiye rejects NATO’s participation in Ukraine war
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Türkiye rejects NATO’s participation in the war in Ukraine, after an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in the Czech Republic capital, Prague.
“We support continued assistance to Ukraine and Ukraine’s ability to ensure deterrence, but we don’t want NATO to participate in this war,” the Turkish Foreign Minister said.
Fidan added, “For Ankara, supporting Ukraine to ensure its territorial integrity and liberating its territory is one thing, and NATO’s involvement in the war is another”.
He warned that the risk of a regional expansion of the conflict would lead to a greater crisis.
The recent European and American decisions to allow Ukraine to use long range weapons to attack targets inside Russia, will lead to further escalation.
Washington and Berlin gave the green light to Ukraine to use long range weapons to defend Kharkov on the border with Russia, overcoming fears that allowing such strikes could drag NATO into direct conflict with Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the US green light for Kiev to use US weapons conditionally, in strikes inside Russia, is a step forward.
