The US government is asking Congress to approve more aid to Ukraine
The US government has expressed its hope for quick approval from Congress to provide billions of additional dollars in aid to Ukraine.
The US National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator, John Kirby, said the administration is currently providing details to members of Congress on the purpose of using these funds.
He continued: “What the final number will be, that will really be up to members of Congress… I don’t want to get ahead of them”.
However, he said, the US government firmly believes that the requested amount is appropriate for the job.
The US government asked Congress for $37.7 billion in additional funds to help Ukraine fight Russia.
More than half of the amount, about $21 billion, Kirby said, is for the security sector, such as weapons delivery or stockpiling by the US military.
Large sums have also been allocated for economic support to Ukraine and humanitarian aid.
