FBI completes preliminary review of documents seized from Trump home
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that it has completed a preliminary review of documents seized during the raid on the residence of former US President Donald Trump.
According to the Washington Post, the memo, which was filed in court, Monday, confirms that the FBI has completed its initial review of documents taken from the residence of former President Trump in Mar-a-Lago during the raid that took place on August 8.
In accordance with the terms of the judicially authorized search warrant, the Franchise Review Team has identified and completed its review of a limited set of materials potentially containing attorney-client information and is in the process of following the procedures set out in the search warrant certificate, written order to address potential franchise disputes, if any.
The Department of Justice and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence also conduct a so-called classification review and national security risk review of documents recovered from Mar-a-Lago.
The FBI had raided Trump’s home for nine hours, seizing about 20 boxes, including what he said were 11 sets of classified documents.
In response, Trump denied the existence of classified documents in Mar-a-Lago, and said the raid was a continuation of the political Democrats’ hunt against him to prevent him from running for president in 2024.
On Friday, the US judiciary published a judicial document outlining the reasons for the Federal Police’s search of the home of former President Donald Trump in Florida, the content of which was revised, to a large extent, in the interest of the investigation.
Federal Judge Bruce Reinhart has ordered the Department of Justice to release this essential document, which is supposed to detail the reasons that led to the investigation of Donald Trump, citing the public interest in the unprecedented raid on the home of a former US president.
Last Tuesday, former US President Donald Trump asked the Florida Federal Court to intervene judicially to appoint an “independent private investigator” to oversee the review of documents found by the FBI during a raid on his residence in the state on August 8 of this month.
In his lawsuit, Trump said his constitutional rights were “violated, and articles protected by the presidential privileges he enjoys may have been confiscated”.
The filing appears to have preempted a court ruling on Saturday to hold a hearing this week on Trump’s request to appoint a special director to conduct an independent review of the confiscated documents, for a possible attorney-client privilege.
