Noam Chomsky: The real goal of Washington in Ukraine

The famous American historian and philosopher Noam Chomsky stated that the United States, which supports Kyiv and seeks to create an alliance of Western countries against Moscow, is trying in this way to weaken Russia’s positions as much as possible.

Chomsky said that Washington wants to prevent Moscow from the possibility of a diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, which could increase tension in the world to the maximum extent possible, recalling that this decision was taken by NATO during its summit at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

“At that summit, the alliance, including Europe, accepted the official position of the United States that it was necessary to achieve the greatest possible weakening of Russia, so that it couldn’t do more large-scale actions,” he explained.

Chomsky expressed his belief that the European position on the Ukrainian crisis is not fair, recalling US method to impose its regime in Iraq, Syria and Libya, and how to present what is happening in Ukraine in the international media.

He continued, “I am very interested in following what the US media writes, which describe the Ukrainian developments as an “unjustified” conflict.

This is the only situation in which this term can be used… It indicates an understanding that what is happening has already been provoked.

That is why this phrase must be repeated all the time… Nobody uses it when it comes to other conflicts”.

Chomsky described Washington’s long-standing desire to lure Ukraine into NATO, despite Moscow’s constant protests and warnings from experienced US politicians, as a provocation.

He continued: “Russia had understood 30 years ago, that is, many years before Putin, that the inclusion of Ukraine in NATO, a hostile military alliance, would mean crossing the line, and that no Russian leader would agree to this, neither Gorbachev, Yeltsin, nor Putin.

A number of senior US politicians understood this, including George Kennan, Henry Kissinger, Jake Medlock, and CIA chief William Burns.

The understanding of that has been around for a long time.
