Zelensky sends an open letter to Putin to end the war and the Kremlin responds

On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, sends an open letter to his counterpart, Russian president Vladimir Putin to have a face-to-face meeting, also he expressed his readiness for a comprehensive ceasefire during negotiations.

In an open letter to Putin, Zelensky said that his country proposes ending this war through direct dialogue between them.

The letter stated that Ukraine believes the United States is fully focused on the Iran issue, and it would be a mistake to wait until war in Europe returns to the forefront of its concerns.

Zelensky added that the United States is capable of monitoring the ceasefire along the line of cessation of hostilities.

Zelensky also offered his country’s readiness for a comprehensive exchange of prisoners of war with Russia, considering that this could be a good prelude to ending the war.

The Ukrainian president called on his Russian counterpart to take serious steps to return the civilians and children who were taken during the war.

He addressed the human losses of the Russian army, saying that he had received reports last Wednesday indicating losses exceeding 30,000 dead and wounded in this army, noting that “this number is repeated monthly, and we have photographic documentation of these losses”.

For its part, the Kremlin said in response to the letter that the Ukrainian president is “welcome at any time” to meet with his Russian counterpart Putin in Moscow.

According to Russian State media who quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying that Zelensky could come to Moscow at any time, adding that Putin hadn’t yet seen the Ukrainian president’s letter.

In recent months, the pace of drone attacks across the border between Russia and Ukraine has escalated, amid the ongoing war between them that has lasted for more than four years.

Diplomatic efforts to end the war, which has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions, have stalled, with negotiations reaching an impasse amid mounting casualties.
