Wall Street Journal: The economy and the families of prisoners…additional pressure on Israel

The Wall Street Journal reported that the accelerating Israeli campaign on the Gaza Strip led to a rise in the number of civilian casualties and an exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, considering that this, in addition to the economic burdens added by the war and the demands of the families of Israeli prisoners, increases the pressure on the Israeli government to end the war.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the intensification of air strikes and close-range fighting in both the northern and southern Gaza Strip exacerbated the humanitarian catastrophe that had already been unfolding for two months, raising growing concerns among the US administration.

With increasing pressure at home and abroad, Israel is racing to achieve its goals, the rush toward achieving some kind of victory causes greater destruction.

The Wall Street Journal pointed out that while Israeli leaders said they would not end the war until they destroyed Hamas, former security officials said that economic pressures and calls to release prisoners place time limits on this active phase of the war.

The families of Israeli prisoners have intensified their calls for the government to give priority to the release of the remaining prisoners, stressing that Israel’s call-up of approximately 400,000 reserve soldiers negatively affects the economy and places a burden on the government.

The Wall Street Journal continued, “While Israeli leaders see the air strikes in Khan Yunis as a major tool to pressure Hamas to resume prisoner release talks, some recently released prisoners and relatives of those who remained in Gaza are concerned that the attacks may kill them without unintended”.

A few days ago, the Israeli media confirmed that Israel has reached a dead end and has lost valuable time.

Meanwhile, 137 Israelis are being held in captivity in Gaza, while they are suspended between life and death, and the promises to release them are words without actions.

Last week, Tel Aviv witnessed a huge demonstration by families of prisoners against the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, with the participation of tens of thousands of Israelis.

The demonstrators raised banners reading, “We’re dying because of Netanyahu’s policy… Get out of our lives,” demanding an end to the war and the release of all Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip.
