Wall Street Journal: Biden warned Netanyahu of the consequences of striking Hezbollah
The Wall Street Journal reported, Saturday, that US President Joe Biden, Benjamin Netanyahu, of the danger of launching a pre-emptive strike against Hezbollah in Lebanon, after the Hamas attack on the seventh of last October.
Biden alerted Netanyahu, stressing that such an attack could spark a broader regional war.
The Wall Street Journal added that Joe Biden pushed Netanyahu to stop the preemptive strike on the Lebanese Hezbollah, which Israel intended to carry out, days after the surprise attack launched by Hamas.
Officials stated that Israel had intelligence, which Washington considered unreliable, that Hezbollah forces were preparing themselves to cross the border towards Israeli settlements as part of a multi-pronged attack.
The Wall Street Journal pointed out that this plan pushed some hardline Israeli officials to the brink of the abyss.
US President Joe Biden earlier urged Israel to pay greater attention to protecting the lives of civilians in Gaza, as part of the White House’s efforts to force Israel to reduce its attack against Hamas in the near future.
According to the Times of Israel newspaper who quoted Biden as saying to reporters, “I want them to focus on how to save civilian lives, not to stop pursuing Hamas, but they have to be more careful”.
