Wall Street Journal: A US plan to transform Gaza from poverty to prosperity!
The Wall Street Journal has revealed details of a new US proposal called “Project Sunrise”, which aims to transform the Gaza Strip from a devastated area into a modern and sophisticated city and luxury tourist resort on the Mediterranean coast.
Led by President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, the team has drafted a strategic vision to transform the sector into a tech metropolis that includes luxury beach resorts, high-speed trains, and AI-powered smart power grids.
The 32-page plan includes proposals to move Gazans from tents to modern apartment towers, and to transition from poverty to economic prosperity, with the United States committing to contribute about 20% of reconstruction costs over 10 years, while additional funding is sought from the Gulf states, Türkiye, and Egypt.
Despite the plan’s ambition, US officials have expressed doubts about its realism, especially regarding the requirements to disarm Hamas as a condition for commencement, as well as the challenges of convincing donor countries to bear the hefty bill to transform a conflict zone into a technologically advanced oasis that serves millions of displaced people.
