Wall Street Journal: A “friendly” drone was the reason behind the failure to confront the attack that targeted US forces near the Jordanian-Syrian border
The Wall Street Journal revealed that a US drone flying in the air prevented confronting the attack that targeted US forces near the Jordanian-Syrian border.
The Wall Street Journal quoted US officials, who refused to reveal their identities, that the “Friendly” drone was flying on its way back to the US base, “Tower 22,” at the moment the latter was subjected to an attack that resulted in the killing and wounding of US soldiers.
The US officials explained that the return of the US drone to the base led to confusion about whether this drone was a friend or an enemy.
They indicated that investigations into the incident are continuing.
In a related context, a US official stated that no evidence has yet been found to prove that Iran led the attack on the US base near the Jordanian-Syrian border.
On Sunday, the US Central Command announced in a statement that 3 US soldiers were killed and 25 others were wounded in a drone attack that struck a base in northeastern Jordan near the border with Syria.
The recent attack on US forces in Jordan is the first of its kind since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza, and the first to result in American deaths.
