Vance: We’ll conclude a long-term nuclear agreement with Iran that will be in America’s interest whether Israel likes it or not
US Vice President J D Vance affirmed that the United States will continue its efforts to reach a nuclear agreement with Iran, whether Israel likes it or not.
Vance told Fox News that US President Donald Trump believes that a long-term agreement on the Iranian nuclear program can be reached, and he is right about that.
Vance added that this may or may not please Israel, but we believe it’s in the best interest of the United States.
Vance said told that despite shared interests between the United States and Israel, their positions don’t always coincide.
Trump had ruled out the possibility of Israel escalating tensions in the region or resuming its strikes against Iran.
He said, “I don’t think that will happen… Things are going very well… Iran is doing what it has to do”.
US media outlets reported that Trump warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington wouldn’t support Israel in any new military operations against Iran, following Israeli attacks on areas in Iran on Monday.
From his part, US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that negotiators were in the final stages of talks aimed at reaching an agreement to end the war in the Middle East, after Iran and Israel announced a halt to mutual attacks that had raised fears of a renewed large-scale conflict.
Trump has spoken several times about the imminent signing of a memorandum of understanding with Iran, but diplomatic efforts have yet to produce any agreement.
“We’re in the final stages of reaching an agreement that will be very good,” Trump said after attending a basketball league final in New York.
He added, in response to a question, that reaching an agreement “will take two or three days”.
Trump urged Israel and Iran to halt their exchange of fire, amid reports of growing disagreements between him and the Israeli Prime Minister, however, Netanyahu said in a televised address that he had told Trump that “Israel has the full right to defend itself, and we will exercise that right whenever necessary,” adding, “If Iran makes the mistake of resuming attacks on us, we will respond with full force”.
