US intelligence report: Iran is planning precise attacks against the United States in retaliation for Soleimani
A senior US military official said on Wednesday, that intelligence reports indicate that Iran is intent on taking vigorous revenge for the killing of Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani.
On Tuesday, two strategic B-52 bombers took off on a return mission for more than 30 hours from the United States to the Middle East to send a new warning to Iran.
In a report to Fox News, the military commander stated that Iran intends to direct precise attacks at the US military and US interests in the Persian Gulf region, on the first anniversary of the killing of Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani.
The official emphasized that the information received about Iran is “the most worrying” since Soleimani was killed last year.
He said, “We see accurate attacks planning, especially in Iraq, that require Iranian assistance to carry them out”.
Adding that “it is unclear whether this is an emergency plan or a plan that is activated because it has been approved, and they are moving forward with preparing all its details and implementing them”.
He suggested that “the attacks may target American citizens in the Middle East, especially in Iraq, and he did not rule out an attack on the US embassy in Baghdad in one way or another”.
When asked to explain the types of “precise attacks” that Iran could plan, the official said,
“These attacks with short-range ballistic missiles, winged missiles, cruise missiles or drones may be similar to those used in the attack on Saudi Aramco last year”.
The official stressed that all US military plans against Iran are “defensive” in nature, as a precaution in the event Iran undertakes any new attacks against US interests.
“No offensive attacks were planned,” the official added.
He pointed out that “the United States has sent warning messages to Tehran through mediators inside Iraq”.
