Türkiye: the ruling Justice and Development party said the date of the meeting between Erdogan and Assad hasn’t yet been determined

The spokesman for the Turkish Justice and Development Party (AKP), Ömer Çelik, confirmed that the date of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s meeting with Syrian President Bashar al Assad isn’t yet specified.
This came at a press conference held by Çelik on Monday, after a meeting of the Central Executive Council of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) headed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Work on this is ongoing… Assad hasn’t yet been invited, Therefore, there is no clarity on the place and date of the meeting until this moment,” he said.
Çelik reiterated that Türkiye continues its firm position on preserving Syria’s territorial integrity.
“Our presence there does not target Syria’s territorial integrity, but rather we are fighting against efforts to establish a terrorist entity there,” he said.
“Through this normalization process, we seek to make a safe Syria for the millions who have had to leave their homes… We’ll never let anyone who trusted us and worked with us”.
On Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country was waiting for Syrian President Bashar al Assad to take a step to improve relations with it so that it could respond appropriately.
“We’ll extend our invitation to Mr. Assad and it may be at any moment, and we hope to restore Turkish-Syrian relations to what they were in the past,” he concluded.
