Turkish Presidency’s Communication Department denies asking British intelligence service to protect the Syrian President
On Friday, the Turkish Presidency’s Communication Department denied the validity of the news circulating about the Turkish intelligence service’s request to its British counterpart to strengthen the protection of Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa.
This came in a statement published by the Center for Combating Media Disinformation of the Communication Department.
The news published in the media, which said that Türkiye has asked the British intelligence service (MI6) to strengthen the protection of the legitimate Syrian president, is untrue.
According to the statement, the Turkish intelligence service is actively cooperating with both the international intelligence services and the security forces of our neighbor Syria on the fight against terrorism.
The Turkish center pointed out that the successful operations against ISIS, which were recently carried out in cooperation with the Syrian authorities, are the latest example of this cooperation.
He stressed that the Turkish intelligence service didn’t ask his British counterpart for anything regarding the protection of the Syrian president or assigning him to this role, according to the agency’s report.
The center concluded: “We ask the public not to believe the baseless allegations, publications and content”.
On Thursday, Turkish security sources told Turkish Anadolu news agency that a cell linked to the terrorist organization ISIS that was preparing to carry out acts of sabotage in the Syrian capital Damascus was dismantled, and that 3 of its members were arrested, following the efforts of the Turkish intelligence service.
