The defense ministers of Turkey and Russia stressed the importance of continuing cooperation between the two countries in terms of stability in the Syrian province of Idlib, despite the provocations.

The Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement on Monday that Hulusi Akar met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu and the accompanying delegation in Ankara and discussed the latest developments in Syria in the framework of the agreements between Astana and Sochi, according to the official Anatolia news agency.

The two ministers stressed the importance of continuing intelligence and military cooperation to establish peace and stability in Idlib despite all provocations, according to the statement.

“I thank you for the warm welcome, I hope, before the meeting of the heads of Russia, Turkey and Iran, on February 14 in Sochi, and we can coordinate our actions in Syria”, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said to his Turkish counterpart”.

They also exchanged views on measures to ensure security within the demilitarized zone of Idlib.

During the talks, the leaders of Turkey, Russia and Iran met in Sochi on February 14.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed last month at the end of a meeting in Sochi to establish a demilitarized zone in Idlib.
