US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Ukraine had accepted a ceasefire and that Russia could be persuaded as well.

In a press statement, Trump explained that his country had held very good talks with Russia and Ukraine, and that he had received good news in this regard.

He added, “Ukraine has accepted the ceasefire, and we can convince Russia, although it will be difficult… We’re receiving good responses”.

Trump criticized former US President Joe Biden over the war in Ukraine, saying, “he should never have gotten us into trouble with Russia… He should never have allowed this war”.

Trump stated that approximately 2,000 young people were dying daily due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, and that all developments were heading toward a third world war.

Trump also emphasized on Friday that Ukraine didn’t need to provoke a much stronger power, even with significant financial and military support from abroad.

Trump sharply criticized his predecessor, Joe Biden, “Biden shouldn’t have allowed this war… First, you shouldn’t provoke someone who is much more powerful than you… Even with money”.

Trump added, “We’ve given them (Ukraine) a lot of money and a lot of equipment… We produce the best military equipment in the world, but even with all of that… it’s unbelievable”.

The US president drew attention to the Ukrainian soldiers who were surrounded by Russian armed forces in the Kursk region.

“Many Ukrainian soldiers are trapped and in great danger, and I have asked them (Russia) not to kill these soldiers. Please, don’t kill these soldiers,” he said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he had been informed of the US leader’s request to show mercy to Ukrainian soldiers besieged by Russian forces in Kursk Oblast.

Commenting on Trump’s proposal during a meeting of the Russian Security Council, Putin emphasized that Kyiv must order its military to surrender.

In this regard, the Russian President stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces committed crimes against civilians in Kursk, which the Russian Prosecutor’s Office “classifies as terrorism”.

On Tuesday, the Saudi city of Jeddah witnessed the launch of US-Ukrainian talks to discuss a ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow.

The talks were chaired by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his Ukrainian counterpart, Andriy Sepah.

Following this, Saudi official media announced that Ukraine had agreed to a US proposal for a one-month ceasefire with Russia.
