US President Donald Trump on Tuesday sacked John Bolton, his national security adviser, for not “agreeing with many of his proposals”.

“I told John Bolton last night that we no longer need his services at the White House”, Trump tweeted.

“I don’t agree with many of his suggestions”, he said, referring to the man known for his tough stance on Iran, Russia and North Korea.

“Accordingly, he asked Bolton to resign, and I received it from him this morning, and I thank him very much for his services”.

“I will announce the name of the new candidate for national security adviser next week”, Trump said.

Bolton denied he had been fired, saying he had resigned.

The news shocked Washington and came days after Trump caused anger by announcing the cancellation of secret talks with the Afghan Taliban.

Bolton is a controversial figure whose name has been linked to the invasion of Iraq and other hardline foreign policy decisions.

He is one of those who play a role in hardening the White House’s stance on Iran, Venezuela and other areas of tension.

Trump’s statement came after the White House press office announced that Bolton would hold a press conference on terrorism issues along with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Bolton challenged Trump’s account of events, saying the president had not personally dismissed him as he said late on Monday.

“I submitted my resignation last night and the president said ‘Let’s talk about it tomorrow”, he Tweeted.

Trump was quoted by Bloomberg News today as saying he had fired him because he “strongly disagreed” with many of his positions.

Bloomberg said the dismissal was due to a dispute over negotiations with the Taliban.

“I asked John to resign and he submitted it this morning”, Trump said.

“I thank him very much for his services and I will appoint a new national security adviser next week”.

“John Bolton is certainly a hawk, if it is up to him, to attack the whole world at the same time”, Trump told NBC in June.

“But that doesn’t matter, because I want both sides”.

Bolton, Trump’s third national security adviser, appears to be fighting a number of battles inside the White House, and more recently over Afghanistan and North Korea, contrary to the president’s wishes.

Bolton was also behind the hardline approach to countries such as Iran and Venezuela.

“The threat of war around the world is going down significantly as Bolton leaves the White House”, Republican Senator Rand Paul was quoted as saying by Bloomberg News.

Paul told reporters that Trump should appoint an adviser who would listen to his view on the need to end the war in Afghanistan.

In contrast, Mitt Romney said, according to Bloomberg that Bolton’s different views “are the reason why I want to remain present” in the White House.

“I’m very sad for his departure,” Romney said.

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said on Tuesday that Charlie Cooperman had been appointed acting national security adviser to replace John Bolton, who Trump sacked earlier in the day.

Trump was quoted by Bloomberg News today as saying he had fired him because he “strongly disagreed” with many of his positions.

Bloomberg said the dismissal was due to a dispute over negotiations with the Taliban.

“I asked John to resign and he submitted it this morning”, Trump said.

“I thank him very much for his services”.

For its part, considered the Russian presidency that the resignation of US national security adviser, John Bolton, an internal matter for the United States.

Asked if Moscow believed Bolton’s resignation would affect the possibility of extending the Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Interfax: Subject”.

“Our position on the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty is well known and has been repeatedly confirmed by Russian President Vladimir Putin”, Peskov said.

US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he had asked his national security adviser, John Bolton, to resign, citing strong differences with his aide.

Bloomberg said the dismissal was due to a dispute over negotiations with the Taliban.
