Trump opens the door for with Maduro
US President Donald Trump has hinted at the possibility of talks with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolás Maduro after Washington announced it planned to designate a drug cartel that Maduro allegedly leads by a foreign terrorist organization.
“We may have some discussions with Maduro, and we’ll see what the outcome will be,” Trump told reporters at Palm Beach International Airport in Florida, adding that they want to have a dialogue.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Sunday that the United States plans to designate a drug cartel allegedly led by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro as a foreign terrorist organization, in light of the escalating tensions between the two countries.
“The Cartel de los Solis, in collaboration with other foreign cartels designated as terrorists including the Terre de Aragua and the Sinaloa Cartel, is responsible for acts of terrorist violence across the Western Hemisphere, as well as drug trafficking to the United States and Europe,” Rubio said in a statement.
