Trump imposes additional 100% tariffs on China
US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will impose an additional 100% tariff on China, in addition to existing tariffs, effective November 1, and will also implement export controls on all sensitive software.
This came in a post he posted on his social media account on Friday evening.
Trump said that China had sent a very hostile message indicating that, starting November 1, it would impose broad export controls on virtually all products it produces, and even some that it doesn’t produce, describing this stance as very aggressive in the area of trade.
He explained that this measure will affect all countries without exception, and that its part of a plan that has been in place for years, adding: “Its unprecedented in international trade and a moral stain on relations with other countries”.
Trump added: “Because of this unprecedented action by China, and on behalf of the United States alone and not on behalf of other countries facing similar threats, the United States will, effective November 1, or at an earlier date depending on actions or changes that China may take, impose a 100% tariff on the tariffs currently paid by China”.
He continued, “We’ll also implement controls on the export of all sensitive software on November 1”.
