The Washington Post: European officials privately acknowledge that Ukraine won’t be able to reclaim territory

The Washington Post reported that European officials privately acknowledge that Ukraine will likely not be able to retake the territory now under Russian control.
The Washington Post reported that, “European and even Ukrainian officials privately acknowledge that Kyiv is unlikely to be able to retake Russian-held territory in the foreseeable future”.
The Washington Post said that, the United States proposes recognizing Crimea as a Russian republic, noting that officials hope to postpone reaching an agreement that would include recognition of Russia’s territorial sovereignty and the lifting of sanctions without any benefits for Kyiv.
It’s worth noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Russia’s terms for a peace agreement with Ukraine last June, which included Ukraine’s withdrawal from the Donetsk and Lugansk republics and the Kherson and Zaporizhia oblasts.
Ukraine announced before, that it wouldn’t recognize Russian sovereignty over those territories and demanded a return to the pre-2014 borders.
