The Wall Street Journal reported that Sweden is training elite forces in the country’s north to counter Russia in the Arctic.

The WSJ said, “To prepare for such a confrontation, Sweden is training a new generation of soldiers to conduct combat operations in Arctic conditions”.

The newspaper added that the brigade, which is being trained in northern Sweden, is experiencing more active expansion than other units in the country’s army.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Swedish military training aims to support Finnish and Norwegian forces in the event of military action on their territory, noting that US soldiers are also receiving training in northern Sweden.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal asserted that Russia has an advantage over NATO in the Arctic thanks to its reactivation of Soviet-era military bases.

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously asserted during an interview with Tucker Carlson that Moscow wouldn’t attack NATO countries, and that there was no point in doing so.

He pointed out that Western politicians regularly frighten their people with an imaginary Russian threat in order to divert attention from domestic problems.
