The United States and Europe seems to be more distracted by the war in Gaza than Ukraine
Artillery shell shipments to Ukraine decreased after the outbreak of the war on Gaza, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who focused on the decline in 155 mm shells that are widely used on the lines of the Eastern and Southern Fronts in Ukraine.
Zelensky said that it’s not as if the United States said that it wouldn’t give anything to Ukraine… No, we have very serious and strong relations together”.
He stressed that it’s a natural, as everyone is fighting to survive… I am not saying that it’s something Positive, but such is life, and we have to defend what is ours”.
Meanwhile, reports said that, at the beginning of November, there was US and European pressure on Ukraine to accept sitting at the negotiating table with Russia.
According to NBC news, “US and European officials have begun to talk quietly with the Ukrainian government about what possible peace negotiations with Russia to end the war might entail,” according to a current senior US official and a former senior US official familiar with the discussions.
According to NBC news, the US officials said that the talks included broad outlines of what Ukraine might need to give up to reach an agreement, and they noted that some of the talks, which officials described as sensitive, took place last month during a meeting of representatives of more than 50 countries that support Ukraine, including members of… NATO, known as the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group.
The US officials said that the discussions are an acknowledgment of the military dynamics on the ground in Ukraine and at the political level in the United States and Europe, and they pointed out that there is concern in the US government about the extent to which public interest in the war in Ukraine has declined since the start of the war on Gaza, and officials fear that this shift may make security more secure. Additional aid for Kiev is more difficult.
Zelensky had denied at the time that there was US and European pressure on Kiev to enter into a peace process with Moscow, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated his position that this was not the right time to negotiate with Russia, and he also denied that any Western leaders were pressuring him to do so.
He said in a joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Kiev on November 4, “Everyone knows my position, which matches the position of Ukrainian society… Today no one is putting pressure on me to negotiate, not even any of the leaders.
The European Union or the United States, and for us now to sit with Russia and talk and give it something will not happen.
Zelensky also said that Ukraine is committed to pushing reforms, including strengthening anti-corruption practices.
The European Union is expected to submit a report next week on the progress made by Ukraine in its bid to join the bloc.
But in light of Zelensky’s rhetoric changing between denying the presence of US and European pressure on him and complaining about the decline in missile supplies, a question arises as to whether Washington and the European Union have abandoned or been distracted from Ukraine by supporting the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
