The UAE delivers Germany’s shipment of liquefied natural gas

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company ADNOC and the German RWE AG announced, on Wednesday, the delivery of the first shipment of liquefied natural gas from Abu Dhabi to the Albahaven floating station for importing natural gas in the German city of Brunsbüttel.

The shipment of 137,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, which was produced from the facilities of the ADNOC Gas company on Das Island in Abu Dhabi, is the first shipment to be used in the trial operation of the floating natural gas import terminal in Brunsbutl, and the first shipment of natural gas Liquefied is exported to Germany from the Middle East.

ADNOC stated in a statement that the delivery of this shipment follows the export of a trial shipment of low-carbon ammonia last October, and contributes to strengthening the well-established strategic cooperation relations between the UAE and Germany in the areas of energy security, emissions reduction and low-emission fuel sources.

Ahmed al Abri, Acting CEO of ADNOC Gas, said, “The delivery of the first shipment of liquefied natural gas from the Middle East to Germany reflects the continuous and close cooperation between the UAE and its strategic partners to provide safe, sustainable and affordable energy supplies in a responsible manner”.

He added: “While the global demand for energy is witnessing a continuous increase, as ADNOC Gas confirms its readiness to provide more shipments of liquefied natural gas, which represents an important transition fuel to our partners (RWE) and the industrial sector in Germany, based on the well-established relations of cooperation between the UAE and Germany in fields of economy, energy security and climate action”.

“The arrival of the first shipment of LNG from the Middle East to Germany represents the most important next step after the arrival of the floating terminal in mid-January,” Andre Estrak, CEO of RWE Logistics and Trade said.

He added, “Efforts to develop the infrastructure for supplying liquefied natural gas in Germany are making rapid progress, as (RWEA) provides support whenever needed”.

In turn, Stefan Wenzel, Minister of State at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action in Germany, said: “We need now, more than ever, to push for a realistic transition in the global energy sector that includes diversification of natural gas resources, just as we need in the short term in at the present time, more LNG will arrive at natural gas import terminals in Germany, such as Brunsbüttel”.

It is noteworthy that the UAE and Germany signed a strategic partnership agreement in the field of accelerating energy security and industrial growth last year.
