The Syrian transitional president issued a decree of forming People’s Assembly Elections committee with one-third members appointed directly by him

Syrian transitional President Ahmed al Sharaa issued a decree on Friday forming a committee to elect the People’s Assembly, which allocated its 150 seats.

Ahmed al Sharaa “issued Presidential Decree No. 66 of 2025, stipulating the formation of a committee called the Supreme Committee for People’s Assembly Elections”.

According to the decree, the committee is headed by Muhammad Taha al Ahmed, and includes Hassan Ibrahim al Daghim, Imad Yaqoub Barq, Lara Shaher Eizouqi, Nawar Elias Najma, Muhammad Ali Muhammad Yassin, Muhammad Khader Wali, Muhammad Yasser Kahala, Hanan Ibrahim al Balkhi, Badr al Jamous, and Anas al Abdah as members.

The decree tasked the Supreme Committee with overseeing the formation of electoral sub-committees, which would elect two-thirds of the members of the People’s Assembly, according to the same decree.

The decree stipulated that the number of members of the People’s Assembly shall be 150, distributed according to the population of the governorates, according to the categories of notables and intellectuals, and in accordance with conditions approved by the Supreme Elections Committee.

The decree also stipulated that one-third of the members shall be appointed by the President of the Republic, and two-thirds of the members shall be elected by recognized electoral committees.

The seats were distributed as follows: 20 for Aleppo, 11 for Damascus, 10 for the Damascus countryside, 9 for Homs, 8 for Hama, 7 for to Idlib, 6 for Latakia, 6 for Deir al Zour and 6 for Hasakah, 5 for Tartous, 4 for Dara’a, 3 for Raqqa, 3 for Sweida, and 3 for Quneitra.
