The Syrian Ambassador to Moscow denies reports about a possible meeting between Assad and Erdogan at BRICS Summit
Information about a possible meeting between Syrian President Bashar al Assad and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan hasn’t been confirmed, according the Syrian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dr. Bashar al Jaafari who said in an interview with the Russia TASS news agency correspondent on the sidelines of the North Caucasus: New Geostrategic Opportunities forum.
Jaafari added in response to a question about the possibility of holding a meeting between the two presidents, “No, until all our demands are met, until Türkiye meets our demands to withdraw from the occupied territories, and until a road map is drawn up to withdraw from our lands and stop supporting terrorists”.
Jaafari hasn’t yet confirmed the information regarding Assad’s attendance at the BRICS summit at the end of October.
Jaafari continued, “We know that Türkiye is our close neighbor, and we want good relations with it, but dialogue cannot be one-sided, and good intentions must be from both sides… Despite many attempts over several years, there has been no result so far.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently confirmed his readiness to meet Syrian President Bashar al Assad, indicating that he is awaiting a response from Damascus.
Later, a Turkish diplomatic source confirmed that Ankara had not received any response from Damascus so far regarding the proposal to meet the two presidents.
