
The staff of the Russian Armed Forces announced the withdrawal of the “Kurdish units” from northern Syria under the Russian-Turkish Memorandum of Understanding.
The General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General Valery Gerasimov, said during a meeting Tuesday with foreign military attaches to Moscow carried by the media that “Kurdish units” were withdrawn to a depth of 30 km from the Syrian-Turkish border, while the Syrian forces and the Russian military police entered my areas Eye of the Arabs and the island.
President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart reached an agreement on October 22 stipulating the withdrawal of “units” for a distance of 30 km from the border and the deployment of the Syrian Arab Army on the border and the military police to a number of areas east of the Euphrates.
Gerasimov added that “the liberation of lands in the east of the Euphrates region leads to an increase in the circle of missions carried out by the Russian military police units, which are currently patrolling in the areas of Ain Al Arab and the island”.
He explained, “The Russian police are monitoring the commitment to the ceasefire system along the borders of the Turkish peace spring operation”, noting that “this matter requires the involvement of additional units of the Russian military police on an interim basis”.
On October 9, Turkey launched a military aggression under the name “Spring of Peace” on the regions of northeastern Syria, claiming to protect Turkish national security and Turkish borders from the “Kurdish units” that Ankara considers terrorist.
