The Israeli army talks about the latest details of the construction of the temporary US floating dock off the shores of Gaza and its main mission
The Israeli army announced, on Saturday, that the United States is continuing to build a temporary floating pier on the shores of the Gaza Strip, with an area estimated at more than 281,000 square meters.
The Israeli army said in a statement on X, “The United States is building a temporary floating dock, through which humanitarian aid will be transported, and it will be linked to the shores of the Gaza Strip”.
On Friday, a US military ship docked off the coast of the Gaza Strip and is expected to participate in the construction of a floating pier, which Washington announced a plan to build with the aim of providing humanitarian aid.
On March 7, US President Joe Biden announced that his country’s army would build a temporary port on the coast of the Gaza Strip to deliver more humanitarian aid.
The Israeli army explained that “the dock aims to receive humanitarian aid directly in Gaza”.
The Israeli army pointed out that the project area is about 67 acres, and it’s designated for operation and the passage of large quantities of goods to the territory of the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army posted a short video, showing the ongoing work to construct the pier.
According to local Palestinian sources, the pier being built on the Gaza coast from the rubble of homes destroyed by Israel during the war that has been going on for more than half a year, will be tasked with receiving aid shipments delivered by ships to the US port.
Since last March 15, two aid ships have arrived off the coast of Gaza from Cyprus, and their cargo was unloaded via buoys that transported the boxes to the concrete dock.
The international charity “World Central Kitchen” worked to receive this aid and redistribute it to the residents of the Gaza Strip who are suffering from famine as a result of Israel’s restriction of food and humanitarian aid from entering them through land crossings.
