The Israeli army mistakenly targeted a settlement instead of Lebanese village
The Israeli military admitted on Monday that its artillery mistakenly shelled a settlement in northern Israel on Sunday, killing a settler, instead of targeting a Lebanese village.
The official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said: “The army’s investigation revealed this morning (Monday) that the death of Ofer Moskowitz, a resident of Kibbutz (settlement) Misgav Am, was mistakenly caused by the fire of our forces while firing artillery into Lebanon”.
“According to the results of the investigation, an artillery battery made a mistake in calculating range while firing on Lebanon, so shells fell on the kibbutz, causing a disaster,” the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation added.
“Moskowitz’s body was found yesterday morning, while he was inside a car that caught fire”.
According to the investigation, an artillery battalion planned to strike a village in southern Lebanon, but fired four shells that exploded inside a Misgav Am, near the northern border with Lebanon.
Two shells hit a house, while the other two hit cars near the local store, including Moskowitz’s car.
