The Israeli State Water Company signed a strategic agreement with Kazakhstan on Tuesday to establish water infrastructure in the southern province of Turkestan, according to Israeli media.

The national water company “Mekorot” signed a strategic agreement with Kazakhstan to establish water infrastructure in Turkestan province, southern the country.

“The agreement is estimated to be worth tens of millions of dollars, and it’s one of the first tangible fruits of Kazakhstan’s accession to the Abraham Accords in November 2025”.

According to the Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen, “The agreement with Kazakhstan is an important step that will strengthen Israel’s position as a regional power in the field of energy and a global leader in water technologies”.

“About 75% of the province’s population lives in rural areas, and the province is characterized by a dry climate, and its economy is mainly based on agriculture,” the Israeli media said.

The water infrastructure in the province suffers from obsolescence and lack of investment, which prevents drinking water from reaching many residents.

The Israel Water Company will develop, operate and maintain the water system in the governorate based on advanced technologies developed in Israel, and the plan includes the integration of measurement and monitoring technologies, the establishment of a central command and control infrastructure, and cyber protection systems.

“This agreement makes Mekorot a leading Israeli infrastructure company in the Muslim world,” the Israeli media claimed, as it operates in several countries.

The agreement represents an economic opportunity for Israel, and an embodiment of the way in which Israel’s accumulated innovative and structural expertise can be used to serve political goals.

On November 7, 2025, during a dinner at the White House in Washington as part of the US-Central Asia Summit, US President Donald Trump announced that Kazakhstan had officially joined the Abraham Accords, which include normalization with Israel.

In 2020, during Trump’s first term, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan agreed to normalize relations with Israel, and these countries signed what became known as the Abraham Accords.
