The Independent newspaper published a report by its Los Angeles correspondent, Mike Bedigan, entitled Obama warns that Israel’s actions could worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Bedigan says that former US President Barack Obama – despite his warning – was keen to show his full support for President Joe Biden, his position in strong support of the strategic ally Israel, and his efforts to dismantle the Hamas movement.
The report explains that Obama’s warning comes at a time when at least 5,100 Palestinians have been killed due to Israeli raids, while about 1,500 Israelis have been killed due to Hamas attacks.
The report quotes Obama’s blog post in which he said, “The world is watching the development of events in the region, and any plans of the Israeli army that ignore human losses could undermine their goals.
Obama called on Israel to take more positive steps to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza, especially after the step of allowing relief trucks to enter from Egypt through the Rafah crossing, which he saw as a positive step, but insufficient.
The report adds that Obama warned against being led by social media and the false and misleading information spread on it, noting the need to work on shaping the world that we truly want to leave to our children, grandchildren, and future generations.
