The European Union is considering imposing sanctions in response to US’s action against Nord Stream 2, which it considers unacceptable and contrary to international law

The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, said the bloc is considering taking action, in response to US sanctions against the Nord Stream project 2.
Commission spokesman Eric Mamer asked at a news conference on Friday, to be patient until more details are provided.
In a written response to a question posed by European Parliament member Emmanuel Morrell, Borrell said that US sanctions are “unacceptable and contrary to international law”.
He added that “the Union strongly opposes it,” noting that the activities of companies are legal and legal.
In December 2019, the US administration imposed sanctions on European companies operating on the Nord Stream 2 project.
The administration says the gas pipeline construction project, which is partly funded by Russia’s state-owned Gazprom, is boosting Moscow’s influence in Germany and other European countries.
The United States is now threatening to impose additional sanctions.
