The Emir of Qatar: Netanyahu sabotaged the Gaza negotiations by attacking Doha
Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani attacked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday evening, accusing him of seeking to derail the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza by attacking Doha.
This came during his speech before the United Nations General Assembly, in which he called on the UN Security Council to support the establishment of a Palestinian state and rejected Israel’s attempts to partition Syria.
Emir Tamim’s speech at the UN forum comes after Israel’s September 9 attack on the Palestinian negotiating team in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The Emir of Qatar described Israel as a rogue state, stressing that the international system’s retreat from the logic of force means allowing the logic of the jungle to prevail.
He explained that Doha was subjected to a cowardly attack on September 9th, targeting a meeting of the Hamas negotiating delegation at the residence of one of its members in a residential neighborhood that houses schools and diplomatic missions.
He stressed that the Israeli attack on Qatar is an attack on a mediating, peacemaking state that has dedicated its diplomacy to resolving conflicts through peaceful means, and has been making strenuous efforts for two years to reach a settlement that would halt the war of extermination being waged against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
The Emir of Qatar stressed that Israel’s aggression against Doha is a blatant violation of international norms, accusing Netanyahu of seeking to derail the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza by attempting to assassinate the Palestinian negotiating delegation.
He added, “They visit our country and plan to bomb it, negotiate with delegations, and plot to assassinate its members… It’s difficult to deal with this mentality, which doesn’t respect the most basic principles of human interaction”.
He pointed out that “Qatar, as a mediating state, is hosting delegations from Hamas and Israel, and, in cooperation with Egypt and the United States, has achieved the release of 148 hostages,” referring to the Israeli prisoners in Gaza.
Israel attacked Qatar from the air, despite its mediation role, alongside Egypt and under US supervision, in indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel to reach a prisoner exchange agreement and ceasefire in Gaza.
The Emir of Qatar explained that Netanyahu dreams of the Arab region becoming a sphere of influence, and the Arab-Islamic summit (held in Doha this month to discuss Israel’s aggression against Qatar) warned of the consequences of this illusion”.
He stressed that Israel isn’t a democratic state in a hostile environment, as its leaders claim.
Rather, it’s in fact, hostile to its surroundings, engaged in building an apartheid regime and a war of extermination, and its prime minister boasts to his people that he has prevented the establishment of a Palestinian state.
He added, “The State of Qatar will remain an active partner in the international community in resolving disputes through peaceful means and seizing opportunities to achieve global peace”.
He continued, “We’ve faced misinformation campaigns against our mediation efforts, but these campaigns won’t deter us from continuing our efforts, in partnership with Egypt and the United States, to end the war in Gaza”.
He stressed that peace in the region will only be achieved through action by the UN Security Council to establish the State of Palestine, praising international recognition of the state and calling for more such measures.
In another context, the Emir of Qatar noted that Syria is witnessing a new phase, and we hope it will mark the beginning of a path toward achieving the Syrian people’s aspirations for stability, development, and the rule of law.
He called on the international community to seize the current opportunity to stand with Syria to successfully overcome this transitional phase.
He continued, “Qatar will spare no effort in providing the necessary support to sisterly Syria, and I am confident that the Syrian people are capable of overcoming the difficulties of the transitional phase and rejecting sectarianism in all its forms… We reject Israeli attempts to divide Syria”.
Regarding Sudan, the Emir of Qatar said, “The Sudanese people are suffering from an unprecedented humanitarian crisis as a result of the ongoing violence”.
He added, “We once again call on all parties to prioritize the supreme national interest and engage in a comprehensive dialogue that leads to sustainable peace”.
