The CIA asks Ankara to mediate between Iran and Israel
CIA Director William Burns made a phone call to Turkiye’s National Intelligence Director, Ibrahim Kalin, based on Turkish media reports, in which he asked him to mediate the conflict between Israel and Iran.
According to the government TRT channel, the two sides exchanged views on the ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip.
The Turkish channel indicated that Kalin held talks with representatives of the Hamas movement after his discussions with his US counterpart.
This comes in the wake of the attack launched by Iran against Israel, by launching dozens of drones and missiles in response to the bombing of the Iranian consulate building in Damascus.
Iran has threatened a strong response to any future Israeli action.
On the other hand, the White House and European officials urge Israel to exercise restraint to prevent the escalation of the potential conflict with Iran, while emphasizing the importance of avoiding tensions that may negatively affect the global economy and oil and gas prices, especially in light of the approaching election date.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the US deterrence has failed again, as Iran shows its readiness for further escalation, while President Biden seeks to limit Israel’s provocation, amid fears that this will affect its interests in the absence of US support.
