Syrian Ministry of Defense: Israel launched an air strike on Aleppo bombing facilities
The Syrian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that Israel targeted the Syrian city of Aleppo on Saturday with an air strike that caused some material losses there.
The statement stated that Israel carried out an air attack from the direction of the sea to the Mediterranean west of Latakia, targeting a number of points south of the city of Aleppo.
Fighters allied with Iran, including the Lebanese Hezbollah group, now control large areas in eastern, southern and northwestern Syria and in several suburbs around the capital, Damascus.
For years, Israel has launched attacks on what it describes as targets linked to Iran in Syria, where Tehran’s influence has increased since it began supporting President Bashar al Assad in the civil war that broke out in 2011.
19 pro-Iranian fighters were killed on Saturday as a result of an Israeli air strikes in eastern Syria, and three pro-Tehran fighters were later killed as a result of Israeli bombing in the north of the country.
Israel attacked on Saturday afternoon, with six missiles, warehouses and headquarters of pro-Iranian groups in the Aleppo airport area, killing at least three fighters and wounding four others, as one of the missiles fell in the area of Aleppo International Airport without causing damage to the airport.
According to the official Syrian news agency, SANA, quoted a military source as saying, “Around 17:20 (14:20 GMT) this evening (Saturday), the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Latakia, targeting a number of points south of the city of Aleppo, AND The attack cause material damage”.
For Years now, Israel used to strike targets inside Syria, claiming to be related to Iran, and its affiliated groups, however several Syrian military targets were attacked as well, without Syrian government be able to respond.
