Surprising statements by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto regarding the Gaza Strip and its besieged population have sparked considerable controversy, raising questions about Indonesia’s secret involvement in US President Donald Trump’s plan to displace Palestinians, which he continues to adhere to.

The Indonesian President announced on Wednesday that his country is prepared to receive a number of Palestinians affected by the ongoing war in Gaza.

In a statement issued at the start of his foreign tour, which includes the Middle East and Türkiye, Subianto said, “The first phase could include receiving approximately 1,000 people”.

He added that he had directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to quickly begin consultations with the Palestinian side and other relevant parties to explore mechanisms for evacuating those affected and transporting them to Indonesian territory, stressing that his country was prepared to host the wounded, those suffering from psychological trauma, and orphans.

He pointed out that their stay in Indonesia would be temporary, until they fully recover and the situation in Gaza stabilizes, allowing for their safe return.

These statements come nearly two months after the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians, in light of US President Donald Trump’s proposal to permanently deport Gaza residents.

The Indonesian president’s remarks raised many questions and controversy about their timing, objectives, and the extent to which they were related to other statements made by Trump and the Israeli prime minister regarding countries agreeing to receive Palestinians displaced from the Gaza Strip.

Indonesia was on the list of countries designated by the US and Israel for the implementation of the displacement plan.

Observers believe these statements constitute “playing with fire” in the context of the most dangerous scheme being hatched against the Gaza Strip and its residents.

If the Indonesian president’s statements are intended to encourage the displacement of Palestinians, even if only temporarily, then they are extremely dangerous and constitute an explicit declaration of the implementation of the displacement scheme proposed by Trump.

Others argued that Indonesia should hold an official press conference soon to reveal the motives and reasons behind the statements, their timing, and clarify to the public whether Indonesia supports or rejects Trump’s deportation plan, thus ending the cycle of doubt surrounding it following President Subianto’s remarks.

The Indonesian president had previously announced, before officially assuming office, his country’s readiness to send peacekeeping forces to Gaza if necessary.

He didn’t clarify though, whether his offer to host the Palestinians falls within the framework of the displacement plan announced by Trump and welcomed by Israeli occupation leaders, which aims to force the residents of the Gaza Strip to migrate to countries willing to accept them.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated, during a press conference at the White House with Trump, their commitment to implementing the displacement plan.

Statements by Israeli Interior Minister Moshe Arbel revealed that more than 16 flights have been launched from Ramon Airport as part of efforts to displace residents of the Gaza Strip, without providing details on the number of departing passengers or their destinations.

The Palestinians and Arab countries rejected Trump’s proposal to displace the nearly two million residents of the Gaza Strip outside the Strip.

Egypt presented a plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which was adopted at an emergency Arab summit in Cairo last month.

The plan stipulates the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without displacing its residents.
