Several Trump administration officials summoned to a congressional hearing on Tuesday to explain the justifications for war with Iran
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will appear before Congress on Tuesday to brief lawmakers on the progress of the military operation against Iran, the White House said Sunday.
White House spokesman Dylan Johnson said Rubio, Hegseth, John Ratcliffe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine will brief members of both houses of Congress on Tuesday regarding the scope and objectives of the attack on Iran.
The closed-door briefing is expected to focus on the military, intelligence, and diplomatic dimensions of the operation, including assessments of Iran’s response capabilities and potential regional repercussions.
Administration officials are also expected to outline the legal justification for the strikes and the administration’s broader strategy to deter further escalation.
Lawmakers from both parties have called for greater transparency about the timeline of the operation, the criteria used to select targets, and the measures being taken to protect US personnel and allies in the region.
Several members of Congress have also raised questions about whether additional authorization may be required should the conflict expand.
According to White House officials, the administration maintains that the action was limited in scope and designed to neutralize specific threats rather than initiate a broader conflict.
However, officials acknowledged that US forces in the Middle East remain on heightened alert amid concerns about possible retaliatory moves by Iranian-backed groups.
The briefing comes as Congress weighs potential legislative responses, including oversight hearings and possible resolutions related to the use of military force.
