Russia enters the Sarmat intercontinental missile into alert
The Director of the Russian Space Agency “Roscosmos”, Yuri Borisov, announced on Friday, that the strategic intercontinental missile system “Sarmat” has been put on alert.
“The Sarmat strategic complex has been put into combat service,” Borisov said.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the first installations in the complexes of the intercontinental Sarmat missile systems will begin to carry out combat missions in the near future.
“In the near future, launchers of the Sarmat complex, equipped with a new heavy missile, will begin combat service,” Putin said at a meeting with graduates of higher military educational institutions.
Sarmat is a strategic missile system equipped with a heavy-type intercontinental ballistic missile that operates on liquid fuel.
The weight of one of these missiles exceeds 200 tons.
The complex is designed to replace the “Vovoda” missiles that are in service with the Strategic Missile Forces.
The destructive capabilities of the missile able to wipe out an entire country from the map, and that’s what gave it the nickname of “Doomsday missile”.
