Political unrest continues within Russia as a result of the terrorist attack that occurred at the Crocus City Hall mall on the outskirts of Moscow, with ISIS claiming responsibility for the incident.

In this context, Russian President Vladimir Putin contacted his Turkish and Syrian counterparts, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar al Assad, where he pledged to intensify cooperation in the field of combating terrorism.

Russia moved quickly to direct strikes at ISIS within its areas of influence, especially in Syria, where Russian forces have been present for years.

Experts indicate that Moscow will seek to carry out deeper strikes against terrorism outside its borders in coordination with regional powers and international allies.

The attack on Moscow took place on March 23, 2024, killing at least 139 people and wounding 145 others.

Russia considers the incident a terrorist act and accuses Ukraine of responsibility.

Russia seeks to exploit the incident to internationalize it and present it as an example of international terrorism, similar to the September 11 attacks.

Experts believe that Russia will use this opportunity to enhance cooperation and political settlements with Syria and Türkiye.

For his part, Russian political researcher Andrei Antikov confirms that Russia is actively participating in the fight against terrorism in Syria, and provides logistical and intelligence support to a number of countries in this regard.

It’s expected that coordination between Russia, Türkiye, and Syria in combating terrorism will continue, which may play an important role in achieving stability in Syria.
