Russian Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin informed his Syrian counterpart, Bashar Al Assad, in a telephone conversation of the content of the agreement between Moscow and Ankara on a cease-fire in the Syrian Idlib region.
In a statement issued Friday evening, the Kremlin said that the two sides made a phone call, during which Putin briefed Assad on “the agreements reached during the Russian-Turkish summit on March 5, stressing that its implementation will enable stability in the situation in the Idlib region.”
The statement pointed out that “Assad praised the results of the talks between the Russian and Turkish presidents,” and also thanked Putin for “support in combating terrorist organizations and for the efforts made to ensure Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
On Thursday, Russian President and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reached a package of decisions to ease tension in Syria’s Idlib, which includes declaring a ceasefire in the region from 01:00 on March 6, and establishing a safe corridor in specific lands on the “M4” road.
The two sides also agreed to conduct joint Russian-Turkish patrols since March 15, 2020 along the “M4” road, from the town of Tarnbah, which is located two kilometers from the city of Saraqib, to the town of Ain Al Hor.
