Newsweek: Trump achieves his first victory over Harris in US presidential race
The first polls after US President Joe Biden withdrew from the race revealed Republican candidate Donald Trump ahead of potential Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
According to Newsweek, the results of the two polls enhance the likelihood of Harris defeating Trump if she is chosen as a Democratic candidate.
The first poll, conducted by Onpoint Politics and Social Research, found that 51% of respondents favored Trump, Harris received 43% of the vote, and 6% said they didn’t support neither candidate.
This poll was conducted on July 21 and surveyed 800 potential US voters, with a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
The second poll, carried out by Morning Consult, showed 47% of respondents favoring Trump and 45% favoring Harris.
This poll included a sample of 4,001 registered voters, with a margin of error of two percentage points.
Incumbent President Joe Biden was expected to be the Democratic Party’s representative in the upcoming elections on November 5, before announcing his withdrawal last Sunday, naming Kamala Harris as his replacement.
