New York Times: The current situation requires a presidential decision that = postponed for a long-time regarding Syria

The New York Times considered that the current situation requires a presidential decision, which the United States has long postponed, that includes a firm commitment to keeping US forces in Syria.
The New York Times said that withdrawing US forces from Syria isn’t a choice that should be taken easily, but staying isn’t a good option either, unless Washington is able to end the attacks on its forces, amid unclear whether the US army is capable of that.
The New York Times added that the attack, which killed three US soldiers and injured 40 near the Jordanian-Syrian border, was the clear and expected result of the United States’ “lukewarm” responses to more than 150 attacks against its forces in Syria and Iraq since October.
The New York Times warned that any withdrawal of US forces from Syria would carry with it great risks, explaining that the absence of US support may make the Kurdish SDF forces struggle to secure detention centers for ISIS prisoners, and if some of them escape, they may be able to revive the organization.
