New York Times: Biden administration fears new sanctions against Russia for fear of oil rise
The New York Times quoted its sources as saying that the White House fears imposing new sanctions against Russia to avoid rising oil prices and damaging Joe Biden’s election campaign.
According to the New York Times, the US Treasury has proposed imposing new restrictions on Russian oil tankers, without decisions in this regard yet from the presidential administration.
While Treasury officials want to take Russian tankers out of service, White House economic advisers worry that it risks higher oil prices this summer and higher US gasoline prices, potentially damaging Biden’s re-election campaign.
It’s noteworthy that Western media reported earlier that the European Union, as part of the 14th package of anti-Russian sanctions, has prevented 27 cargo ships carrying Russian oil from entering its ports.
The New York Times quoted its sources as saying that the proposed restrictions on Russian oil tankers are still under study and won’t be adopted in the near future.
For its part, Russia has repeatedly stressed that the country will deal with the pressure of sanctions that the West began exerting on the Russia several years ago and continues to grow.
Moscow has made clear that the West lacks the courage to admit that sanctions against the federal Russia have failed.
There are also rising and repeated views in Western countries themselves that sanctions against Russia are ineffective.
